SUSTech catapults itself into Top 100 in Global Ranking of Academic Subjects

28/05/2021

On May 26, ShanghaiRanking released its 2021 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS). GRAS is a ranking of world-class subjects annually by ShanghaiRanking Education Information Consulting Co., Ltd, the World's leading higher education evaluation agency.

The Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) has a total of 15 subjects on the list, six of which are amongst the World's Top 100. Nanoscience & Nanotechnology, Energy Science & Engineering, and Water Resources ranked 51-75 globally, while Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Materials Science & Engineering ranked 76-100 globally. SUSTech has made significant breakthroughs in the world rankings of subjects.

The 2021 GRAS contains rankings of universities in 54 subjects across Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences. More than 1,800 out of 4,000 universities across 93 countries and regions are listed in the rankings. The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects has analyzed the universities that have published a certain number of publications between 2015 and 2019. The publication threshold is set differently for various subjects, and Bibliometric data is collected from platforms such as Web of Science and InCites.

The GRAS rankings use a range of objective academic indicators and third-party data to measure the performance of world universities in respective subjects, including research output (Q1), research influence (CNCI), international collaboration (IC), research quality (Top), and international academic awards (Award). The index of international academic awards is based on Academic Excellence Survey (AES) conducted by ShanghaiRanking since 2017.
