On the morning of January 9, 2026, a delegation from ISCTE - University Institute of Lisbon, led by Rector Maria de Lurdes Rodrigues, visited the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). They were warmly received by Professor Li Jin, Vice President of SUSTech, along with other representatives.

Vice President Li Jin extended a heartfelt welcome to the delegation, noting that this visit is a follow-up to Chairperson Prof. Hong Jiang’s 2024 business visit to ISCTE. He emphasized the shared values of academic excellence, institutional innovation, and international cooperation between the two sides, and introduced SUSTech’s achievements in internationalization and its strategic focus on the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. “Over the past period, our two institutions have engaged in multiple exchanges and have worked together to implement collaborative initiatives,” said Professor Jin. “Today, we are delighted to sign a cooperation agreement, and we look forward to welcoming students from ISCTE to our campus for exchange and study.”

Rector Maria de Lurdes Rodrigues expressed her gratitude for the warm reception and introduced the accompanying professors. She commended SUSTech’s rapid development and innovative vision as a young university, noting its alignment with ISCTE’s commitment to linking higher education with societal needs. She introduced ISCTE’s academic strengths in social sciences, management, data science, and health management, as well as its 16-year experience in a joint doctoral program with a Chinese university. She expressed enthusiasm for deepening bilateral cooperation to create mutually beneficial outcomes. 

During the discussion, both sides exchanged insights on potential collaborative areas, including student and faculty exchanges, joint talent training, particularly in medical engineering, hospital management, finance, and entrepreneurship, and resource sharing through European and Asia-Pacific university alliances. Professor He Wang, Assistant Dean of SUSTech College of Business, introduced the school’s disciplinary programs and international collaboration initiatives, proposing potential cooperation in doctoral programs. Professor Jian Zhang, Deputy Dean of SUSTech-King’s School of Medicine, shared details about the joint programs between SUSTech Medical School and King’s College London, expressing hopes for future collaboration in health and medical sciences.

A highlight of the visit was the signing of the first cooperation agreement, marking a milestone between SUSTech and ISCTE. The agreement paves the way for ISCTE students to visit SUSTech in April 2026 and explores joint doctoral programs.
