SUSTech Welcomes Delegation from Singapore Institute of Technology

On September 5, a delegation from Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), led by President Kee Chaing Chua, visited the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). Prof. Qikun Xue, President of SUSTechs warmly welcomed the guests.
President Xue extended a heartfelt welcome to the SIT delegation, initiating the discussions by drawing parallels between Shenzhen and Singapore. He highlighted their shared identities as dynamic, innovative, and forward-thinking global hubs that offer rich opportunities for industry-academia collaboration. Building on this common foundation, President Xue elaborated on the synergies between SUSTech and SIT, highlighting SUSTech’s practice-oriented educational philosophy and strong focus on innovation and entrepreneurship. He proposed to establish concrete collaboration in key areas, notably faculty and student exchange programs and joint scientific research projects.
President Chua of SIT commended SUSTech’s remarkable achievements in a short time. He highlighted SIT’s distinctive position within Singapore’s higher education landscape as a university focused on applied learning and industry integration. He emphasized its strengths in key areas such as engineering, applied sciences, and information technology, and expressed strong interest in deepening collaboration in these fields through joint research initiatives and student exchanges. He also praised Shenzhen’s dynamic environment and its exceptional ability to attract and nurture young talents, noting that the city’s innovative spirit and opportunities make it an ideal hub for future-oriented education and cooperation.
In a decisive move to cement the discussions, both universities reached a consensus to formalize their partnership. They are committed to drafting and signing a comprehensive memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the near future. This agreement will be designed to translate the day's productive dialogue into actionable initiatives, ensuring the proposed collaborations in exchange and research are effectively implemented.
Prof. Ke Liu, Dean of School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Prof. Xin Cheng, Dean of School of Microelectronics, Prof. Yi Da Li, School of Microelectronics and Dr. Hao Chen, Executive Deputy Director of SUSTech Global also participated in the discussion.
President Chua and his delegation were warmly guided a visit to labs of School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship and gained deeper insights into the strengths of SUSTech's related disciplines and academic programs.
