SUSTech Welcomes Delegation from São Paulo State University

A delegation from São Paulo State University (UNESP), led by its Executive Vice President Professor Cesar Martins, visited the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) on the morning of September 3. The two sides held friendly and productive discussions aimed at enhancing cooperation in scientific research, student exchanges, and academic partnerships.
During the meeting, Professor Wei Hong, Director of SUSTech Global, reflected on the positive interactions between SUSTech and UNESP during Vice President Li Jin’s visit to Brazil in June. He provided an overview of SUSTech’s development and its commitment to internationalization, highlighting the university’s rapid growth and global outlook.
Professor José Celso Freire Junior, Associate Provost for International Affairs at UNESP, presented an introduction to the university and highlighted its strong focus on involving undergraduate students in scientific research—an educational approach that aligns closely with SUSTech’s philosophy. He also presented information about UNESP’s affiliated hospitals and its renowned dentistry program, expressing interest in exploring future collaboration opportunities in these areas.
Professor Hai Rao from SUSTech’s School of Medicine shared insights into the medical school’s progress and accomplishments and expressed enthusiasm for strengthening collaborative efforts with UNESP in medical education and research. Professor Jin Zhang, Assistant Director of SUSTech’s Office of Research, along with Professor Pedro Antonio Santoro Salomão from the Shenzhen International Center for Mathematics, discussed potential avenues for expanding research collaboration between the two universities.
The delegation also toured the SUSTech campus and visited the Cryo-Electron Microscopy Center, gaining a comprehensive understanding of SUSTech’s advanced research facilities and scientific capabilities.
