SUSTech Delegation Visits HE Institutions in Portugal and Italy

From November 21 to 27, Hong Jiang, University Council Chairperson of the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), led a delegation to Portugal and Italy. The delegation visited the ISCTE-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, Politecnico di Torino, and the University of Bologna to expand cooperation and partnerships.
The visit began at the ISCTE-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, where Chairperson Hong Jiang participated in a doctoral defense evaluation and attended the graduation ceremony of doctoral students and the 2nd China-Europe Forum on Healthcare Reform and Quality Development.

Meetings were held with Rector Maria de Lurdes Rodrigues, Vice Rectors Jorge Rodrigues da Costa and Maria das Dores Guerreiro, and representatives from the Department of Technology and Architecture and the Department of Applied Digital Technology. Hong Jiang expressed her appreciation for the university's achievements in academic research and talent cultivation, emphasizing the shared goals of both institutions in promoting research, improving education quality and cultivating global talent. She expressed her hope for strengthening cooperation through joint research, faculty and student exchanges, and other collaborative programs, particularly in business, management, and engineering.
On November 25, the delegation visited Politecnico di Torino and held in-depth discussion on educational cooperation with Rector Stefano Paolo Corgnati, Vice Rector Alberto Giuseppe Sapora, Head of the Department of Architecture and Design Micgeke Bonino, Professor Claudio Germak and representatives of the International Affairs Division. Rector Stefano Paolo Corgnati provided an overview of the university's history, academic programs and internationalization efforts. Chairperson Jiang highlighted the successful implementation of the joint doctoral program between the two universities, noting that three doctoral students had already benefited from the program. She expressed hopes to expand cooperation to additional disciplines.

On November 26, the delegation visited the University of Bologna and met with Daniela Cavalcoli, Rector's Delegate for Mobility of teachers, Students and Professional Staff, Karin Pallaver, Rector's Delegate for Cooperation and Development and Vittorio Di Federico, Professor at the Department of Civil, Chemical, Environmental and Materials Engineering. Professor Daniela Cavalcoli provided an overview of the university's international exchange programs. Professor Vittorio Di Federico discussed existing cooperation with SUSTech's School of Environment and expressed interest in further strengthening ties. Chairperson Jiang acknowledged the University of Bologna's significant role in global higher education and expressed hopes to enhance academic and cultural exchanges as well as student mobility, building upon the existing cooperation. SUSTech delegate also introduced the “Young Envoys Scholarship (YES)” program and welcomed students at the University of Bologna to study at SUSTech. After the meeting, the delegation visited the campus and gained a deeper understanding of the teaching and research environment of the University of Bologna.
