Swedish Delegation Visits SUSTech for Research Collaboration

On November 6, a delegation from Sweden’s Ministry of Education and Research, headed by David Edvardsson, Director General of Division for Research Policy, visited the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). Qikun Xue, President of SUSTech, and other representatives held discussions with the guests.

During the meeting, President Qikun Xue warmly welcomed the Director General’s visit and provided an overview of the university's mission, development history, unique student recruitment system and achievements in research and education. President Xue highlighted the strong partnerships SUSTech has established with several Swedish universities, attracting Swedish scholars to join the SUSTech community. He specifically mentioned Professor Lars Ivar Samuelson, Dean of the Institute of Nanoscience and Applications, who is not only a chair professor at SUSTech but also a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, and the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences. He expressed his hope that the both sides can carry out substantive cooperation in their respective areas of strengths, promote faculty and student exchanges, and jointly drive the forefront of scientific and technological development.


Director General David Edvardsson expressed his high admiration for SUSTech's rapid development and research achievements in such short period of time. He also reflected on the long-standing partnership between Sweden and China in scientific research and innovation. He provided a brief overview of the Division for research policy at the Ministry for Education and Research, as well as the Swedish government's strategy for innovation planning. He expressed his hope that this visit would facilitate the exchange of innovative initiatives and practices with SUSTech, and conveyed a desire to enhance collaboration with the university.

The delegation also visited the Cryo-Electron Microscopy Center and Institute of Nanoscience and Applications (INA).


Prof. Hong Wang, Vice Provost and Dean of Graduate School and Prof. Jiaqing He, Director of Office of Research joined the discussion.
