SUSTech & UNESCO-ICHEI Delegation Visit Indonesia

From April 24-27, 2024, Professor Li Jin, Vice President of the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) and Director of the International Center for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO (UNESCO-ICHEI), led a delegation to Jakarta, Indonesia. The delegation convened the Southeast Asia Regional High-Level Policy Dialogue and the SUSTech-Jakarta High School Principals Meeting. Additionally, they fostered exchanges and pursued collaboration opportunities with pertinent international organizations, local government departments, universities, enterprises, and associations.
The Southeast Asia Regional High-Level Policy Dialogue, themed “Leading Effective Integration of GenAI in Higher Education”, was jointly organized by the Indonesia Cyber Education Institute (IIOE Indonesia National Center), UNESCO-ICHEI, UNESCO Regional Offices in Bangkok and Jakarta, with the support from Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Secretariat and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Secretariat. The event, held on April 25, attracted nearly 200 leaders and stakeholders in higher education from China, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Vietnam.

During the Dialogue, Professor Li Jin engaged in substantive discussions with several distinguished individuals, including Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris, Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Indonesia); Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Universitas Terbuka (Indonesia Open University); Prof. Dr. Paulina Pannen, Former Chair of the Indonesia Cyber Education Institute under the auspices of Universitas Terbuka; Dr. Roger Y. Chao Jr., Asst. Director/Head of Education, Youth and Sports division, ASEAN Secretariat; Dr. Ratana Som, Under Secretary of State, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (Cambodia) (MoEYS); Mr. Mak Ngoy, Director General of Higher Education, MoEYS; Dr. Po Kimtho, Director General, Institute of Technology of Cambodia; Prof. Dr. Wening Udasmoro, Vice Rector for Education and Learning, Universitas Gadjah Mada; Carl Michael F. Odulio, Vice Chancellor for Research and Development, University of the Philippines Diliman; Prof. Libing Wang, Chief of Section for Educational Innovation and Skills Development, UNESCO Bangkok Office; and Prof. Sri Hartati D. Reksodiputro, Chair of Academic Quality Assurance Office, Universitas Indonesia. Their discussions revolved around fostering collaboration in digital education and enhancing student exchanges and study opportunities in China.

On April 26, SUSTech co-hosted the SUSTech-Jakarta High School Principals Meeting with the Perhimpunan Indonesia Tionghoa (Chinese Indonesia Association or INTI), which drew over 40 principals, superintendents, and teachers from 22 local high schools. The meeting, chaired by INTI's General Vice-Chairman, Robert Nyo, underscored a strong commitment to fostering educational and cultural exchanges between Indonesia and China, as well as providing unwavering support to exceptional Indonesian students pursuing studies in China. Prof. Li Jin highlighted SUSTech's dedication to comprehensive educational cooperation with Indonesia, outlining its overseas enrollment policies, scholarship programs, and the academic achievements of Indonesian students at SUSTech. He also encouraged more talented Indonesian students to consider applying to SUSTech.
>>That evening, the delegation paid a visit to INTI General Chairperson Teddy Sugianto, where they reached an agreement to broaden SUSTech’s recruitment efforts targeting exceptional Indonesian students.
During the visit, the delegation also attended the Indonesia-China Annual Conference on Technical and Vocational Education and Training Cooperation & Development, visited the the Embassy of China in Indonesia, China Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia, China Nonferrous Metal Industry's Foreign Engineering and Construction Co., Ltd.'s branch in Indonesia, PT Dairi Prima Mineral, Bank of China - Jakarta Branch, and Dana.
