On June 27, 2023, Ms. Ana Menezes Cordeiro, Consul General, and her delegation from the Consulate General of Portugal in Guangzhou visited the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). Qikun Xue, President of SUSTech and other representatives held discussions with the guests.

Qikun Xue gave a brief summary of the current development of SUSTech. He hopes to expand exchanges with Portuguese universities, enterprises, and institutions and carry out all-round, multi-level, and wide-range cooperation in fields of talent cultivation, scientific research, collaborative innovation, and cultural exchanges, etc,so as to make greater contributions to the strategic alliance between China and Portugal.

Li Jin emphasized that SUSTech is establishing Shenzhen Ocean University and that Shenzhen is developing into a global marine hub city. He expressed that SUSTech and Shenzhen are keen to learn from Portugal in the field of maritime, safeguard and wisely use marine resources, and work together to address a range of environmental concerns.

Ms. Ana Menezes Cordeiro acknowledged the stunning achievements made by SUSTech in recent years and introduced the basic information of Portuguese universities. She noted that next year will be the 10th anniversary of the establishment of sister cities between Shenzhen and Porto, and that there have been hundreds of years of friendship between China and Portugal. She expressed her strong desire to advance bilateral collaboration in science, technology, AI and entrepreneurship and to jointly write a new chapter of China-Portugal cooperation.

Li Jin, Vice President for Global Strategies and Acting Dean of Business School, Mingzhao Xing, Member of Presidential Executive Council and Dean of School of Medicine, Jiaqing He, Vice Dean of College of Science, Guixin Li, Assistant Dean of College of Engineering and Hao Chen, Executive Deputy Director of SUSTech Global, joined the discussion.
