10/06/2021

On June 9, the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) released its QS World University Rankings 2022. The Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) has achieved another significant milestone on its path to become a top global university. It was ranked 13th in mainland China and 275th globally, up 48 places from last year, which shows the significant progress being made by SUSTech, both nationally and internationally.

Included in the global ranking of QS World University Rankings for the second time, SUSTech was able to propel itself into the top 1/4 of universities, comprising 1300 global institutions and 58 universities in mainland China.

The QS World University Rankings are made up of six metrics – academic reputation (40%), employer reputation (10%), faculty-student ratio (20%), citations per faculty (20%), international faculty ratio (5%), and international student ratio (5%). Significantly, in the faculty-student ratio category, SUSTech rose to 1st place in mainland China and 41th globally, with an almost perfect score of 98.5 points.

As an emerging and innovative university, SUSTech has topped several world university rankings. SUSTech ranked 8th in mainland China and 26th in Asia in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2021. Recently, Nature Index also released its 2021 table results based on journals for the period 2019-20. SUSTech ranked 1st in the global Top Ten Rising Stars list. SUSTech’s natural index fractional count (FC value) has increased from 128.09 to 221.61, and its global ranking has risen from 88th to 41st place. Their national ranking has also risen from 19th to 11th place.
